This one came into my email over the weekend and its been making some waves around the blogs lately. Shot in the Brothels of Rotterdam the video is very cinematic and does a great job of giving tremendous meaning to the vocoder part in this track. This Netherlands based group produces a brand of electro music that harkens to late 1970s and early 80s. Dark and beautiful stuff. Be sure to check out more of their work on myspace.

Italo Radio Online

There are some great resources online for Italo lovers. This weekend I stumbled upon some great radio stations on itunes that are streaming nothing but fun italo tracks. If you haven't used the radio feature on itunes start doing it now, its a great way to hear new music and avoid replaying the same old mp3s. Most stations also include song listing information so you can hunt out that track you like.

Golden Radio Italia plays 80s music with an emphasis on Italo and Euro Pop. You can find it on the web or itunes.

And of course you cannot miss Intergalactic FM. Four stations of dance, electronic, disco, Italo, Old School and funk from Holland. The Cybernetic Broadcasting System Channel and IFM2 channels play a lot of great Italo and disco but check out all of these streams through itunes and online for those listening sessions when you just want to sit back and be played to.

Mike Mareen - Master of Espionage

Mike Mareen - Agent of Liberty

Mike Mareen sure has a thing for espionage. Here are two tracks of his that illustrate my point. There is a pretty thorough bio of him on discogs that I have included here.

"Mike Mareen was born on November, 9th 1949 in Berlin (West Germany). First, he was a drummer, but later he was the singer of the group Cemetery Institution (non-disco) and performed in Hamburg´s legendary 'Star Club', where The Beatles used to play in their beginnings.

Then he became a sailor, went to New York and spent some years there. Back in Germany again, he released his biggest success hit "Love Spy" in 1986, followed by "Dancing In The Dark" and "Agent Of Liberty", a great disco track as well. In the same year Mike released his first album entitled: "Dance Control". After one year later in 1987 he released his second album called: "Let's Start Now". This album included his new super-hit: "Don't Talk To The Snake". Both albums were released by well-known Germany Label Zyx Records.

Apart of Mike Mareen, he also sang using pseudonyms like Amadeus Liszt with such smash hits like: "Win The Race" and "The Devil Win", but his successful career have been with the Mike Mareen releases."

I stumbled on this mix online when I was looking for info on Nadia Cassini and its great! This is where I heard that Nasty Boys cover of Kiss' "I Was Made for Lovin You." I am not enclosing it as a podcast because I don't want to take credit for someone else's work but it inspired be to aggregate the mixes I have found and post them on italobot.

Bad Boys Blue

I Wanna Hear Your Heartbeat (1986)

Been pretty busy juggling a few projects but had to get these guys up. A friend pointed me to Bad Boys Blue and these guys are the real deal. They have enjoyed much more widespread fame than most of the other artists I have featured on here. From Cologne, Germany they had large audiences in Eastern Europe, Russia (USSR), and South Africa. Check out what they are up to now.
